Our Story

Over six decades ago, Dwight Dunton, Sr. owned a significant amount of undeveloped land and he knew partnering with the right people was the key to success. At the suggestion of his son, Dwight Dunton, Jr, he entered a joint venture with a multifamily developer and began the journey that transformed the family-owned land into generational wealth. Two decades ago, Dwight Dunton, III, at the age of 25, recognized value where others did not and started Bonaventure.

After three generations, Bonaventure capabilities expanded and the organization developed specialized in-house services that are best-in-class. June 2021: Bonaventure Cares Wish Week Update + _


Thank you all for coming together to create such an incredible Corporate Wish Week! With the help of everyone’s donations, we were able to raise an astonishing $1,000 in a single week to support wish kids and their families in the Mid-Atlantic – and provide Melanie with many items from her special Amazon wish list! (Did we mention this was all accomplished in just one week?

Your generous donations will go a long way to help grant wishes for many kids in our local area, and for that, Bonaventure extends our greatest appreciation to each and every one of you.

May 2021: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Open House Fundraiser + _

Bonaventure was a proud Gold Level sponsor of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) fundraiser held on May 1st at Ascend Cycle studio in Alexandria, Virginia. The event included two charity DJ cycle rides, refreshments, pop-up shops and more. Thanks to the support of the sponsors, vendors, raffle donors, and attendees, the event raised over $4,500 for LLS. We look forward to participating in this event for years to come. 

April 2021: Run to Rebuild 2021 + _

Run, walk, or roll with Bonaventure to support Rebuilding Together DC Alexandria! Rebuilding Together DC Alexandria is a grassroots movement to rebuild lives and revitalize communities by repairing homes. They are an award-winning, mission-driven organization that rejuvenates neighborhoods in Washington, DC, and in Alexandria, Virginia.


We’re proud to invite you to join our team for Run to Rebuild 2021. It’s a virtual 5K to support homeowners with low incomes in getting the critical home repairs they need to stay safe and healthy at home.


The past year has demonstrated the importance of a safe, healthy home more than ever. We’ve all stayed home in isolation, doing our part to follow public health guidelines. But the truth is, home simply isn’t safe for many of our neighbors.


Rebuilding is everyone’s responsibility. Join our fundraising team in this virtual event, and help us support our neighbors in creating the healthy, safe homes that every member of our community deserves.

Bonaventure + SPCA = Extra Hope for Our Furry Friends

Did you know that all Bonaventure communities are pet friendly? We recognize that our four-legged residents are considered family members in our communities, and we truly value them for making everyone’s day just a bit brighter.

Because we love pets so much, Bonaventure decided to find an opportunity to support the SPCA organizations near our various communities. Our teams developed partnerships with SPCA locations in Virginia’s Peninsula area, Virginia Beach, Northern Virginia, and Charleston, South Carolina. We’re proud to say that our partnerships made it “pawssible” to cover several adoption fees and medical expenses for deserving fur-family in each community.

Casual Fridays for a Cause

Bonaventure’s “Casual Fridays for a Cause” continues to generate an abundance of donations. In Q1 2021, our team members delivered their best relaxed styles to raise $2,100 All proceeds went to support Samaritan House and SCCADVASA (South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault), two charitable organizations that deliver continued service to support victims of violence. 

For Q2, we’re excited to announce that Bonaventure will be supporting the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research. All donations will be in honor of one of Bonaventure’s very own team members. Our support will help assist the research center in its work toward finding a cure and improving care for patients with sarcoidosis.

Bonaventure Sponsors Local Baseball and Softball Teams
We were delighted when two local sports teams near our communities contacted us for support – and the Great Neck Baseball League in Virginia Beach and The Peninsula CoPilots Softball Team in Williamsburg are now part of the extended Bonaventure family. We’re honored to be able to accept these sponsorship opportunities and support the teams throughout their respective seasons. As a sponsor, we’ll be assisting with their day-to-day expenses, equipment, fees, and more.

April 2021: Bonaventure Celebrates Earth Day + _


Earth Day is an opportunity for individuals and organizations like Bonaventure to join forces to create a greener planet. But how much do you know about its history and impact? Earth Day was founded in 1970 – and it led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts. 

In support of Earth Day and Earth Month, we encourage our team members, residents, and partners to take eco-friendly daily actions like reducing paper waste, carpooling to decrease emissions, and recycling or reusing whenever possible. When we all make it a habit to support the environment each and every day, we can make a positive impact to preserve the planet for future generations.

To celebrate Earth Day, we shared daily tips on our social media pages throughout the week of April 22. In addition, many Bonaventure communities took part by providing Earth Day Kits to their residents. The kits included seeds, soil, and a care guide to keep their DIY potted plants and flowers blooming – and make their homes and communities just a bit more beautiful.

March 2021: Bonaventure Cares + _


The Bonaventure Design team has been volunteering with Harvesters since 2019. Harvesters is a regional food bank serving a 26-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. Harvesters provides food and related household products to more than 760 nonprofit agencies including emergency food pantries, community kitchens, homeless shelters, children's homes, and others. Volunteers work at Harvesters warehouse sorting and packing food to distribute. Each time we visit, it’s a great opportunity to serve along-side coworkers while giving back to our community. In 2020 Bonaventure implemented Casual Fridays For a Cause. Our teams are encouraged to sport their jeans and Bonaventure swag in exchange for a donation to a local charity. From October-December our teams raised $2,891 and donated to The Foodbank of SE Virgina, Shatter the Ceiling, Another Pair and So Others May Eat. Stay tuned for quarterly updates! Bonaventure’s social responsibility outreach program, Bonaventure Cares, focuses on efforts that promote the fabric of our local community, as well as the wider global community.  Over the holidays, we participated in “Adopt A Family” through The Liberty Christmas Tree Program. The Liberty Christmas Tree Program is designed to lend a hand to disadvantaged families and older adults who are facing a difficult holiday season. We graciously filled large bags with gifts and personally delivered presents and meals to local families in need. We always enjoy the chance to giving back to our community.

December 2020 - Aura at Quarterpath Blood Drive
Aura at Quarterpath is hosting a blood drive to give back to our community during what will be a crucial time this holiday season.

November 2020 - Virtual Thanksgiving Potlucks
Thanksgiving Potlucks have been a long-standing tradition within Bonaventure. Though we were not able to gather in large groups this year, our teams were able to get together virtually to celebrate through a Zoom lunch with a game of holiday trivia and a grab and go lunch for our Bonaventure Construction team. In addition to celebrating with our BonaFam, we were also able to collect canned goods for our local food bank.

October 2020 - Bonaventure Cares SWAT Team
Bonaventure was featured at #entrataconnect! CEO, Dwight Dunton, discussed our Bonaventure Cares team and Entrata donated $10,000 to the cause! The Bonaventure Cares SWAT Team consists of employees in each department, in every region, to support fellow team members in the event themselves or anyone in their household is ill or hospitalized.

September 2020 - Tidewater Headquarters Learning Space & Casual Fridays for a Cause
We opened our Tidewater Headquarters as an available off-site learning space complete with socially distanced work stations and proctors to help facilitate online classes Casual Fridays for a Cause: We have raised over $2100, with most donations going to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.

July 2020 - #BonaventureCares Covid Relief
The onsite teams delivered toilet paper and masks to all of the residents as part of our #BonaventureCares Covid relief efforts.

June 2020: Rebuilding Together Alexandria-DC
June 2020: Rebuilding Together Alexandria-DC transforms neighborhoods into vibrant places – restoring pride, dignity and hope. Bonaventure’s Investments Team participated in the charity’s first-ever Trivia Night that raised  $2,200.

May 2020: Transitions Family Violence Services
May 2020: Transitions Family Violence Services, Safe Harbor, Bethany House of Northern Virginia, Inc. and the Samaritan House. Bonaventure accepted the Multifamily Snowball for Good Challenge, donating $5,000 to support this group of local non-profits that provide safe housing for victims of domestic abuse and human trafficking.

April 2020: Community Business COVID-19 Relief
Bonaventure Property Management created a giveaway for residents that supported several local businesses in each region, purchasing $4,500 in gift cards to assist local businesses that are critical to local lifestyles and our region’s economy.

November 2019: Del Ray Business Association
Bonaventure was a “Finisher” sponsor of the 44th Annual Alexandria Turkey Trot presented by the DRBA, whose motto is “Where Main Street Still Exists.”

August 2019: The American Red Cross
August 15, 2019: The American Red Cross and Bonaventure registered 19 donors and collected 18 pints of blood for donation. Our donor's generosity impacted up to 54 lives.

May 2019: Hampton Roads Heroes at Home
May 2019: Hampton Roads Heroes at Home offers programs for local military members and their families. Bonaventure participated in a 24-hour yoga marathon with all proceeds benefiting the charity.

To show our support for the communities and wildlife affected by the Australian bushfires, we donated 100% of the application fees collected on January 10th to the Australian Red Cross for disaster relief fund.
